We examine head injuries from a western standpoint. This module looks at traumatic head injuries and will help you make decisions regarding potential life-threatening injuries and what to do once you encounter this type of problem. We spend a lot of time on head injuries from motor vehicle accidents and sports injuries. Assessment includes:

  • Physical Examination for Head Injuries
    • Neurological Examination
      • Cranial Nerve Examination
      • FOGS Examination
      • Cerebellar Function
      • Sensory & Motor Examination
    • Trauma Examination
      • Eye Examination
        • Funduscopic
      • Ear Examination
      • Nose Examination
      • Mouth Examination
    • TMJ Examination
  • Differential Diagnosis
    • Assessing emergency vs. non-emergency
    • Assessing and grading concussions
  • Special Tests:
    • Computed Tomography (CT)
    • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
    • Electroencephalography (EEG)
  • Treatment Plan
    • Urgent referral (e.g. 911) vs. consult referrral (e.g. neurologist) vs. no referral.
    • Indicated treatments (e.g. acupuncture, herbs).
    • Lifestyle restrictions.
    • Overall case management.
